  Protecting your powerbook from damage and theft, and ensuring it will be usable in foreign countries, requires preparation and care.

· STEP 1 : Get a heavily padded carrying case that fits the accessories you need to carry.

· STEP 2 : Take the components, peripherals and accessories you might need, but leave the CD-ROM drive or other parts you won't. Take an extra battery if you will use the Powerbook on an airplane.

· STEP 3 : Remove disks from disk drives.

· STEP 4 : Get power and telephone-jack adapters if you will need them for international travel. Find out the power requirements and plug shapes for your destination before you leave.

· STEP 5 : Back up all important documents before you leave.

· STEP 6 : Make sure your Powerbook has enough battery power to boot if required by customs or security personnel.

· STEP 7 : Avoid leaving your computer unattended in the airport.

· STEP 8 : Keep your powerbook out of overhead bins and in plain sight when flying.

Instructions

· STEP 1: Shut down the computer immediately.

· STEP 2: Wipe up any liquid. Slope the computer to the side to drain any liquids.

· STEP 3: Remove any removable parts from the powerbook, including the power cord.Do not disassemble the powerbook body to remove internal parts.

· STEP 4: Once the parts are removed, quietly lift the computer and turn it to the side and upside down to drain any liquid. Tilt the computer in a variety of directions to verify that there are no pools of liquid lurking, but be careful not to shake it or handle it roughly.

· STEP 5: Repeat with the floppy drive and other removable parts.
